A word from our Board President…
Welcome to our website. We hope it is of use to those who have experienced a Walk to Emmaus weekend that want to get involved in further activities, gather information, contact board members or submit prayer requests. Also, if you are in the process of gathering information about the Emmaus experience, this is a great place to start.
You will find links on the “About Us” page that will take you the Upper Room (a ministry of the United Methodist Church) and their Emmaus website, which provides an overview of Emmaus. It is fairly detailed, including the program, history, structure and organization, the origin of the “Walk to Emmaus” name, information on how to attend, and how to find an Emmaus Community in your area. It even includes FAQ’s and contact information for further questions.
If you are considering attending a Walk to Emmaus weekend, we encourage you to explore the information, to talk with others who have attended a Walk, and to let God guide you as to His timing. It is a wonderful tool through which many have received gifts of love, healing, grace, renewal, and an experience of Christian Community that goes beyond denominations and status.
The purpose of Emmaus is the renewal of the Church as the body of Christ in the world through the renewal of Christians as faithful and committed disciples of Jesus Christ.
It is not meant to replace your church, but it's purpose is the renewal of the church. This is why only those actively attending a church are invited to participate – so they can go back into their church, renewed. It is not a secret society or organization, and those who say otherwise have mistakenly understood the purpose of the Walk. There are no secrets in Emmaus.
As of this writing, the Walk to Emmaus movement is taking place in all 50 US states, in 30 countries around the world, and over 1 million have attended Walks worldwide. I would be more than happy to answer questions or direct you to those who can, so please, feel free to contact me.
In His strength,
Mary O’Brien
